Tokyo, July 18
Two South Africa footballers have become the first competitors to test positive for coronavirus in the athletes’ village in the Harumi waterfront district of Tokyo- five days before the start of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Meanwhile, six athletes and two staff members from Team GB’s athletics team are in self-isolation after being identified as close contacts of an individual who tested positive after their arrival into Tokyo on 16 July.
South Africa’s Football Association confirmed Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Thabiso Monyane as their positive cases.
Another athlete outside of village tested positive too.
